Table of Contents
Basic version
This version can be downloaded free from the WordPress Repository at https://wordpress.org/themes/thepriority/ (opens in new tab/window)
Structure
Since a screen reader reads a webpage in the order of the code and layout here is how this Theme is laid out starting from the top left hand corner and working to the right:
Main Navigation
- Skip Links:
- A drop down list of skip to main content and if the Secondary menu is activated a link to the right hand sidebar, this will be followed by a Colour Switcher but only if you’ve activated and configured the WP User Stylesheet Switcherr according to the Readme file or below.
- Horizontal Main Menu:
- To the left of the above skip links is the Main Menu, depending on the length of your link text you should be able to get 5 or 6 links, for example, home, about, services, blog and contact, if they are too long they will be forced down a line, breaking the layout.
Header
In the center of this area is the Page Title, below and to the left is the area for a Company Logo or just an image.
Note: This area has a blue Gradient colour that starts on the right and stretches throu the whole Header section.
- Logo/Image:
- This Theme comes with a logo already installed, you can replace it in the “Customize” section in the backend, we recommend an image size of no more than 360 px wide by 80 px tall, however depending on what you do in the next section you can increase the height.
- Lead Magnet:
- To the left of the image is a text Box(lead magnet). This area can be managed in the Customize page in the Admin area, as it’s title suggest you can put text here to draw attention to anything you like, as above you should try to keep the text in the height of your image/logo to keep things even, just play around until you get the look you want. If you dont use any text then the image/logo stays left aligned and you may wish to add a background image in the “Customize” page to offset it. Note: You can also remove the image and Lead Magnet and just go with the Page Title.
- Tagline:
- Below the above 2 sections and center aligned is the Site Tagline/Description.
- Search Box
- Below the Tagline and also centered is the Search box, this can be hidden in the Customizer page
Main Body
This area consists of 2 sections, to the left is the main content which takes up about 60% of the real estate and to the right is the sidebar.
- Text Box:
- At the top of this section is a text area, you can put whatever you want here or leave it empty, it can be accessed in the backend under “Customize” there is one for Pages, Blog page and single Posts. If you are dealing with the Blog Page there is also a heading right after this text box that can also be changed in the Customizer area.
- Main Content:
- After the test box comes the content of your site.
- Right Hand Sidebar:
- As its name reads this is the area to the right of the Main Content and you can add the Secondary Menu, Categories and so on. Note: The heading “right hand sidebar” is only visible to a screen reader.
Custom Footer
This area has a custom Widget area, unlike many other Themes the Widgets start from the center whereas others start from the left, I find this unbalanced visually if you only have 1 Widget.
Theme Options
As well as having many of the default WordPress options to Customize things such as Header and background images this Theme also offers the following Options in the “Customize” page in the Admin area.
- Introduction Text:
- As stated above there are sections on the front of the site where you can add/remove text in the following areas:
- Lead Magnet
- Blog Page
- Pages
- Single Posts
If you dont wish to have any text just remove it from the corresponding section.
- Rewrite Titles:
- As above there are areas where you can rewrite the title in the following places.
- Blog Heading
